How automatic message rules work
Updated:
An automatic rule queues a message for you when a condition is met. For example, when a creator leaves another agency and becomes eligible, your message has gone out before you'd even have noticed. You set rules up in Messages › Automatic.
A rule has four parts
- When: the creator became eligible, or opened to premium invitations.
- Source: the automatic check (the whole market) or one or more Smart Eligibility lists. You can limit it to certain leagues; if none is selected, all leagues count.
- What to send: the sender and the message text. {name}, {username} and {agency} work here too.
- Limits and how: the most messages per day, and whether messages go out by themselves or come to you for approval.
Send on its own, or put up for my approval
With “Send on its own”, a creator who meets the condition is queued and messaged within your sending hours and daily limit. With “Put up for my approval”, the send waits in Messages › Sent as “awaiting approval”, and you send it with one click on “Approve and send”.
Safeguards
- A new rule starts off, set to “Put up for my approval”. You turn it on after saving.
- A rule only looks at changes that happen after you turn it on. It won't bulk-message creators who became eligible before that.
- Rules run every few minutes.
- Eligibility is checked again right before sending, even for a creator who met the condition.
- Sending hours and the don't-message-again period apply to automatic messages too.
Keeping an eye on a rule
Messages › Automatic shows whether each rule is on or off, how many messages went today and how many didn't arrive, when it last ran and any sends awaiting approval. Messages sent by a rule are listed in Sent with the type “Automatic”.
Together with Smart Eligibility
The strongest setup: add creators you can't invite today to a Smart Eligibility list, then create a rule whose source is that list. The moment a creator becomes eligible, your message goes out or comes to you for approval.
